Some surprising news has hit the online gambling news community this week with reports indicating that a well-known (and heavily pursued) internet gambling persona has been released from police custody in secret. According to one report by the Australian newspaper The Courier Mail, Daniel Tzvetkoff, the former head of e-commerce processor Intabill has been released, though the reasons for his departure from police custody, nor the logic behind the secrecy has yet to be determined without doubt.

That’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of theories, however, with the internet casino forums blowing up with hypotheses. Tzvetkoff was released on bail this week after having been tracked and caught in the US gambling mecca of Las Vegas. The 27-year old was flown to New York, where he was held for his involvement in the processing of more than $500 million in illegal internet gambling transactions between February of 2008 and March of 2009. He was being held, pending trial, with authorities determining that was still a flight risk.

Tzvetkoff was well known for the nearly overnight success of his online gambling processing company based out of Australia, Intabill. Unfortunately, he spent nearly all of his instant millions, placing his firm in grave danger. When debtors began to come calling, the funds weren’t there, bills weren’t paid to operators, players, and investors and the firm crumbled, with Tzvetkoff disappearing into thin air. He was apprehended in Las Vegas after a few debtors still angry and owed tipped police off to his whereabouts.

He seems to have plead out to some degree with the authorities, said the Courier, and was released on bail at the end of August, secretly. Though he was originally charged with bank fraud, conspiracy, money laundering and the like, the nature of the charges that he plead out is not known. His bail hearing was held in a closed court, and his released was not published in public records. Some have said that he may be now cooperating with US authorities to his own advantage, an explanation for the mysterious circumstances of his newly acquired freedom.
