The conclusion of the World Open hosted
by online gambling group Party Poker was found this week, as the win was
taken by a Brit to the glee and excitement of many in the internet casino
community. Sam Trickett, a professional poker player out of England, was
able to hold his own against not only a healthy number of original
entrants, but more impressive, against a talent-laden final table that put
even his own skills to the ultimate test before he was able to secure a
win and take home the $200,000 prize. The final table was preceded by seven preliminary heats, including a slew of names not only from the live tournament circuits, but the internet gambling community as well, turning out to try their hands at the in-person version of the game. Trickett managed to take the championship title through a combination of boldness and innate skill, making for a particularly engaging to watch for the railbirds. In addition to the $200,000 cash prize, Trickett also earned his title of champion for the Party Poker World Open VI. He did so by winning out against the likes of Dale Hoy, Juha Helppi, Toby Lewis, Andrew Robl, Yevgeniy Timoshenko and John Duthie. The table dwindled by elimination, until only Trickett and Timoshenko remained, each determined to come out on top at the Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair, London. The win has impressed a number of names in the community as well, with at least one going on record with the following warning to other players: “He’s one helluva player, and you’ll be hearing a lot more of Sam Trickett, I can promise you that,” said the veteran player and commentator Mike Sexton, impressed at the demonstration of skill in the younger player. Timoshenko was awarded $110,000 for his efforts. |
