An unlikely new member of the online
gambling industry has once again surprised the internet casino community
with yet another unprecedented announcement this week, as Sega seems to be
rethinking their strategy in the best case scenario, and preparing to
close their doors at worst. Email and website notices this week have
informed players that the fresh new online casino is not now accepting any
new players at this time, nor are existing members allowed to make new
deposits. The notices are understandably alarming, as it has been only a year since Sega signed on with Playtech to launch their internet casino, branded as Sega Casino, as well as their Sega Poker offering. The company has specialized exclusively in the video gaming world until last year, when they announced their intention to expand into internet gambling. They have been operating in both the UK and Europe, in popular jurisdictions. No formal explanation has been provided by the company as to why they would make such changes so soon, but additional notices posted soon after recommended that existing player withdraw any available funds immediately, clearing out positive account balances on the sites. Any one with balances by mid-September would see the remainder of deposits refunded using the same method. The loyalty point system has already been shut down, and no more game play is available on the sites. The worst part seems to be the lack of communication with only one marketing spokesman offering up the following unsatisfactory comment: “We would like to inform everyone that right now we just have a lot of restrictions, we can't cater [for] players from a lot of jurisdictions. All affected players will be informed by our Customer Service Team." |
