A first for the online gambling
community has been reported this week as a jackpot winner at the internet
casino Jackpot City expressed new concerns in regards to his win – that
is, a reluctance to accept the winnings. According to a press release from
the online gambling group, the most recent strike at the casino was made
by a Chinese player who say inauspicious signs in the amount of the
winnings, which came to a total of £4,444. In the Chinese culture, the number four is very similarly pronounced as the word for ‘death,’ making it an unlucky number. Whether the player noticed that the Wow-Pot jackpot was sitting at £4,444 when he was playing is yet unknown, but the win was followed immediately by a phone call to the online casino Jackpot City, as the player expressed his concerns. A spokesperson for the firm has answered questions regarding the issue with the following explanation: “The player contacted our customer services department, quite concerned about the winning amount,” said Terry Maverick, saying the player wanted to remain anonymous for obvious reasons. “He was obviously keen not to lose out on the money, but at the same time wary of bringing bad luck on himself or his family.” He said it was a first for the company, and that they were working closely to find a solution to the issue, that will be both auspicious to his wallet and respectful of his beliefs. One suggestion has been made that the payout be made in a different currency, altering its amount. |
