The new version of Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan’s
online poker challenge kicked off last week with the acceptance of the new
challenge by Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cate, the latest contender to believe he
can beat out Dwan in a long-term poker game. The pair began their journey
on the 50,000 hand game, kicking off to a strong start by pounding out
more than 12 hours of play, and killing more than 5,000 hands of poker
before calling it quits the first session. The second was even more
frenetic, adding an impressive 7,000 hands to the tally. The pair met up again this week, playing more of the $200 / $400 No Limit Hold’Em game across four of the tables set up by online casino Full Tilt Poker. By the end of it, Cate had extended his lead by yet another $180,000, stretching out ahead with a pocket worth $693,000 more than was held by Dwan. The new game is turning out to be significantly more exciting than Dwan’s other, as it takes advantageous of a few new options that are not available to the play against Antonius. Cate has been the one to take the most advantage of the new ‘run it twice’ element, making the game at least more exciting for those virtual railbirds looking on. It would be easy to root for Cate in these early stages of the challenge, though the same happened in the original Million Dollar Challenge, and Dwan was able to quickly overcome the gap, surpassing Patrik and holding on to his lead even to now. Antonius and Dwan have been at their challenge for nearly 18 months, with the appeal and challenge of the game apparently losing its interest for one or both of them. In the Challenge with Cate, which has yet to be officially named, if the Cardplayer coach were to win out, he would win a very solid $1.5 million from his cocky opponent. If Dwan were to win, however, he’d be awarded only $500,000 of Cate’s funds. |
