The ongoing cases in the US between
authorities and the internet gambling community continue this week with
announcements being published that one well known internet poker player
has been subpoenaed by the courts to testify. Professional player Jason
‘JDN” Newitt has been summoned to the courts to appear before the
magistrates, though the forums and blogs seem a little unsure as to what
kind of information he might be able to provide. The news is in relation to the case unfolding in the US District Court for the southern district of New York State, where the lawmakers and prosecutors are developing quite a reputation for trying to crush internet gambling out of the system. Though no confirmation has been made on what kind of testimony Newitt will be expected to give, some postulate that it likely in relation to the online gambling website Full Tilt Poker, the second largest internet poker provider available on the web. Despite his success as a professional poker player both at internet casinos and in live tournaments, Newitt hasn’t had a flawless history with Full Tilt poker. About a year ago, he signed a contract with the site as an employee but was dishonorably dismissed from his role with them after an embarrassing email incident. He has since sued the internet casino, claiming wrongful termination, and unfair dismissal. His personal litigation names Howard Lederer, Raymond Bitar, as well as Full Tilt itself, Tiltware and Pocket Kings Consulting to blame. Considering he is still so unhappy about the circumstances, Newitt could prove to be a very helpful resource for the New York prosecutors who are looking to take down online gambling and poker operations in the US. |
