Some really good news has hit from the gambling island of Macau this week, as one website with their virtual finger on the pulse of the small nation reports some positive numbers for the year so far. According to a report from the Macau Business online version, the land-based casinos on the island, just off the coast of China has made more money this year already than they were able to secure in all of 2009, giving citizens who flourish on the income a reason to celebrate.

The gross gaming revenues from last year have already been surpassed by those generated this year, reported Macau Business.com, demonstrating a continuance of the prospering noted on the island. Local casino operators have submitted their most recent numbers to the state for taxation purposes, showing that they have already generated MOP 6 billion for the first 12 days of the month, equaling out to about $750 million in US funds. The news was confirmed by a second report from the Macau Daily Times.

The early profits from the first part of the month come as quite a surprise to the online gambling community, which only a couple of months ago reported that the local government was considering eradicating the island of gambling services. But the addition of September’s numbers to the existing MOP 117.9 billion made through the month of August surpass the grand total generated last year, which made MOP 119.4 billion.

The numbers will undoubtedly cause government officials to second guess the proposal to make Macau unfriendly to gambling, as it already and very clearly has established itself as a healthy breeding ground for casinos and internet gambling sites alike. One statement from the Macquarie Securities Ltd said that as much as 16 billion might be expected to be made by the end of the month, a number that would indicate a growth of 40 percent compared to last year.
