Jeff Lisandro, a poker player well known
to the online gambling community, had plenty to celebrate this week with
the acquisition of his fifth World Series of Poker bracelet. The
Australian, who now lives in Italy, managed to take home the latest in his
growing collection of cash prizes and titles with the win of the £5,250
buy-in Pot Limit Omaha event at this year’s London stop on the World
Series of Poker Europe tour. The event itself managed only to attract an original entry field of 120 poker players, a significantly smaller number than the London event’s organizers had hoped for; the lesser resulting prize pool meant that the to-be winner would walk with only £159,514 in addition to a WSOP bracelet. In spite of the small turn out, the final table was rife with big names, nearly all of which should have been easily recognized by their internet gambling fans and rail birds. By the time Jeff Lisandro took the win, the effort had clearly tuckered him out, with his silence communicating his exhaustion more than words could have. The event took place at the Empire Casino throughout the weekend, with the final table sitting down to decide a winner Sunday morning. The final players, including the likes of Joe Serock, Willie Tann, Jeff Madsen, John Racener, Karl Mahrenholz, Felipe Ramos, Jeff Kimber and Chris Bjorin each walked with their share of the prize pool, divvying up the remainders of the £600,000. Third place was taken by Willie Tann, setting Lisandro up for a tough heads up with Serock. He managed to turn the tables early on, however, pressing his luck on a dicey move to doubling his advantage over his opponent, a gain that ultimately resulted in the win, and his fifth World Series of Poker bracelet. Serock walked with a check for £98,262 for his efforts. |
