Battles continue to erupt and progress in California as few changes have been made to the continued efforts to legalize online poker in the state. The latest arguments are not between the Native tribes and the state, but rather between the Poker Players Alliance and California’s Commerce Casino, which expressed rather publicly their opposition to the proposal. The disagreement over the issue has escalated to the point where Commerce company directors Haig Papaian and Tom Malkasian have had to defend their position against the significantly more influential PPA.

Commerce is now garnering the support and backing of other gambling groups, with Hawaiian Gardens Casino, Hollywood Park Casino and Bicycle Casino signing up for the fight. The leaders released a joint statement to the online gambling news presses this week, making mention that some special interest groups have been allegedly receiving funds from illegal offshore internet casinos, supposedly hoping to grease the legalization wheels.

The statement claims that not only are the casinos against the intrastate poker program proposed for the state of California, they are also in opposition of legalizing offshore sites on the whole, including against the bill on a national level, set forth by Barney Frank. Even so, until the bill passes, there’s no telling to what could be in the US’ internet gambling future, as 45 different bills have been set forth in regards to online gambling on a federal level, and another 60 bills on a state level.

"Poker players deserve to know the real facts so let us be clear: We support online poker and we are working hard to make sure it will benefit all Americans. “America's poker community should be united in opposing the Frank legislation that would ship jobs, revenue and taxes beyond our communities,” read the statement. "We can either fight to ensure that poker players' interests are legitimately protected, or allow illegal foreign operators, who are siphoning millions of American dollars out of this country, to dominate the U.S. Market.”
