The Cyprus Classic High Roller
Freeze-Out found a winner this week, with the professional poker player
Perica Bukara taking the title and cash prize. The event, hosted by the
online gambling company Full Tilt Poker, came with a $25,000 buy-in and
attracted 36 entrants, including a host of both live tournament players as
well as internet casino buffs. Bukara, who is now based out of Germany, is
from Bosnia, and though it hasn’t been his only win, it was, by far, his
largest to date. August was actually a very profitable month for Bukara, who also won an additional $37,000 by taking sixth place in the Unibet Open Main event on August 6th. Then again on August 11th, he walked with $20,000 for participating in the European Poker Tour’s Estonia tournament, taking 14th place in the game, hosted by internet gambling powerhouse Poker Stars. The win this week, however, was well earned, as Bukara had to hold out against the likes of Carter Phillips, Ziv Caspi, John Dolan, Sam Trickett, Jon Turner, David Benyamine, Andrew Feldman and Ori Miller in the final table to take the win. Because it was such a small field to begin with, the money prizes didn’t kick in until 5th place, and so the final table combatants fought hard to stay in the game long enough to make their $25,000 buy-in worth it. The final three players were Bukara, Miller, and Feldman, with Feldman dropping out after being eliminated by Miller. Bukara knew he had an advantage with his chip-lead, only to lose it as Miller took over and pulled dangerously ahead. In the end, Bukara was able to take the win back, despite Miller’s lead for most of the heads-up. For his efforts, Miller was awarded $207,337, while Bukara took home more than $300K. |
