The world of poker played witness to a new series of accolades this week with the first ever British Poker Awards, designed to acknowledge the best in poker in the UK. The event was introduced by the London Poker Festival in order to publicly and internationally call attention to the best poker players in the world. Not only do the experts and authorities from the poker community have a say as to who is nominated, nut poker fans are encouraged to get involved by voting for their favorite players.

The British Poker Awards for this year have already been decided, with a number of well loved names on the list to please the internet gambling community. The awards ceremony took place at the Kensington Close Hotel in London, and saw a healthy turnout from the poker community, with a number of pros and famous names showing up to support their competitors and cohorts. Even online casino operators showed up, celebrating a year of growth for poker all over the world, and congratulating those British players who did particularly well.

The Best Cash Game Player was named as Neil Channing, while James Akenhead took the title of Best Tournament Player. Sam Trickett walked with two awards: Players’ Choice and Best Newcomer, while female Victoria Coren was voted in for having made the Best Contribution to Poker. Richard Ashby also won a Players’ Choice, as well as Best All- Around Player, with Phil Ivey taking the Best International Player.

The Best Poker League was said to be the Nuts Poker League; Chris Moorman took the award for the internet gambling industry, voted as Best Online Player. Best Poker Forum was the Hendon Mob while the Nuts Poker League was voted the Best Poker League. According to the event, which will be held every year, more than 3,000 poker fans voted online alone for their favorites.
