It seems that while some younger
poker winners are flukes of luck, the 23-year old David Vamplew may be the
real deal, here to stay. The Scottish pro managed to walk away from his
win at the European Poker Tour in London, taking the title and the main
event with a prize of £900,000 – and walking straight to a dominating
performance at the UK and Ireland Champion of Champions’ game, hosted by
the online gambling group Poker Stars. His win at the Champions game is being perceived as even more impressive than his first triumph as this time he managed to hold his own out against eight other UK Ireland Poker Tour winners. The game was set up as a winner-takes-all, and took place at the Metropole Hilton, also in London, England. The sit and go contest was quite a show, catching the attention from poker fans not only from the online gambling community but the live circuit as well, as other players began to gauge just how much of a threat the young Scot might be in competition. In addition to his first win, which gave him a seat at the Grand Finale for the European poker tour, this Champion of Champions game has ensured that Vamplew will be at all of the stops for next season’s tour – including yet another seat at the Grand Final. The poker pro has said that they are only more opportunities to show his stuff, as the youthful player seems eager to build on his growing reputation while the going is good, proving himself consistently that he is ready for the international market. His Champions game was a big step in achieving that goal, as he managed to beat out some high priced names in his journey to the top, including: Padraig Parkinson, Joeri Zandvliet, Gilles Augustus, Andy Couldridge, Femi Fakinle, Jamie Burland, Nick Abou Risk and Max Silver. |
