Whilst the online gambling industry fluctuates throughout the world, struggling to recover from the worldwide recession that has been keeping the soaring profits at bay for the last 18 months, at least in one corner of the globe, reassuring numbers continue to come in, showing that at least in Macau, betting is well and good. For the third month in a row, the island of Macau has been able to report their upward trend, publishing numbers that showed not only recovery, but growth for their gambling sector.

A small island of the coast of China, Macau has the distinct advantage of being the closest place where gambling is legal and available for Chinese residents. The huge country entertains a strict ban against betting, sending all of their gamblers offshore to look for their entertainment. And so, for the third month in a row, Macau has done rather well for itself, reporting nearly a 40 percent increase in their monthly revenues, which jumped up to 15.3 million patacas.

September of 2010 recorded revenues equaling to more than $1.9 billion dollars, a number that showed a growth of almost 39.8 percent from the same period in 2009. According to the final report published by the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, the forty percent increase, however impressive, was still nothing compared to July’s numbers, which jumped dramatically 70 percent from the previous year.

The statistics are dramatic enough to be catching the attention of American investors, now considering taking advantage of all the business. Macau has been very active in both the online gambling and land-based casino industries since 2006, going so far as to overtake Las Vegas in terms of gamblers serviced each year.
