For those who didn’t make to either the
World Series of Poker in Las Vegas this year, or perhaps even the WSOP
Europe just recently completed, the most recent highlight added to the
poker calendars is that of the Irish Poker Festival, hosted by yet another
internet gambling company, Ladbrokes. The tournament will be returning to
the city of Killarney in Ireland this upcoming October, running from the
1st to the 3rd, with poker fan and brand ambassador Nick Moran hosting.
Moran’s play will be specially watched by a number in the online gambling community, as the personality has put in a year of poker training and practice in preparation for the event. The Poker Festival hosts a prize pool of a guaranteed €250,000, of which Moran intends to take his fair share. The Festival will mark the high point of the year long partnership that he has struck with Ladbrokes; the man is best known for his role in the movie Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, who became a brand spokesman early in 2010, and has been working a series of Poker tutorials with professional player Jon ‘skalie’ Kalmar. The three day competition will lead up to the biggest everyman tournament in the Festival, culminating with a first prize worth €100,000. It’s a special event, not only well publicized and adverstised on Ladbrokes’ online casino, but also because it is one of a very few competitions in Europe to offer such a large prize for the €500 buy-in game. Kalmar has been tutoring Moran for the term of his sponsorship, bringing him to a level of readiness in a matter of months and putting the former novice in direct competition with real, hardcore poker players. “I feel like I’m in a great position to compete for the prize pot,” said Moran. “Skalie may even need to watch out if we end up the same table; he might find out that hes taught me a little too much!” |
