While they are rare, the
entertainment industry does occasionally make a film that directly relates
to the online gambling world, and such is the case this week. Clips from
the upcoming film are already available on YouTube, showing parts of the
comedy that revolves around the game of poker. Contrary to some of the
other more recent films made about poker (circa 21) this new film is
billed to be quite comical and will debut at the Cincinnati Film Festival
this month. The film is called Hitting the Nuts and is a low budget movie. According to the website dedicated to the movie, the production was both written and directed by Joe Boyd. The storyline follows a tale that Boyd claims is a real occurance, set in Scott County, Indiana, about an annual illegal poker championship. Supposedly, every summer in Indiana, the turn of the season brings the No Limit Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament. However illegal, Boyd claims it to be a real occurance, with poker players coming together from all over Scott county to compete for the cash prize, as well as airfare to Las Vegas and a seat to the World Series of Poker Main event. Its taken four years to produce the movie, and was financed by the Hitting the Nuts The Movie, LLC, based out of Nevada. While Boyd claims there to be some basis of truth, most online gambling experts are denying that such a competition exists, calling it a fictional story, however amusing. For one, they say, the ticket to the Main Event would be very hard to secure, and easily tracked to such an illegal outing. Regardless, initial reports on the film seem to be favorable, which follow a group of blue-blooded Americans who take the game a little too seriously for their own good. The characters in the film should be reason enough for poker fans to sign off their preferred online casinos and check it out, with the fictional characters running the gamut, including the zealous town preacher, the aging sexpot waitress, the teenage poker prodigy, the closeted gay funeral director, and, of course, the young Amish farmer hoping to create a better life for himself, his wife and seven kids.
