The European Poker Tour’s Main Event has come to a close this week as a stranger to most of the online gambling community managed to walk with the prize and title this week. The player was not only a fresh new name to the poker world, but the Scottish player carries with him just 23 years, as David Vamphew managed to impress the competition as well as the internet casino industry in taking down the event after five days of play.

His efforts were well awarded, with Vamplew winning a very encouraging £900,000 in the poker tournament, hosted by online gambling website Poker Stars. The EPT unfolded in London, coming to a head for the Main Event, which in and of itself lasted five days, pitting the eventual winner against some of the best poker players in the world.

Vamplew just recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh, where he spent much of his time beating other members of the Poker Club. He graduated with a degree in mathematics, a skill that no doubt played a part in his ability to win out against the competition. The final six hour heads up was against none other than the well-respected John Juanda after the latter’s elimination of Kyle Bowker.

The last pairing seemed to be an easy win for Juanda, who entered the heads up with a 4 to 1 chip lead against the young Scot. With strictly disciplined play, Vamplew managed to come back, slowly but steadily, until he had nearly entirely turned the tables, holding 19,175,000 to Juanda’s 5,985,000. He was awarded the main prize worth £900,000, while the runner up was forced to settle for £545,000.

The surprise win at such a large poker tournament such as the European Poker Tour has a lot of online gambling experts predicting that Vamplew will be a household name in no time, as the young winner spent his time at the University working on both live tournament skills as well as building up a bank account by frequenting online casinos. Immediately after graduating, in fact, he was so confident of his ability that he went professional for poker.
