The New England Patriots have enjoyed the luxury of being a sure bet for the last 5 years in the NFL. But recent games in the 2008/2009 season have left online sports bookies and gamblers scrambling as to try to guess what direction the team is heading in. The see-saw ride began when steady Tom Brady’s season ended with an injury during the first game. Since then, it’s been anybody’s wild guess as to the Patriot’s next move. Well-known quarterbacks were flown in to the East Coast to give the team’s management options, but then never saw so much as a practice as they turned around again. Rumor has it that coaches went further than wanting to give rookie Matt Cassel a chance, they didn’t want his self-esteem affected by knowing there was someone who could get the job done waiting in the wings. To his credit, he could’ve done a lot worse, leading the Patriots to victory, with a strong defensive support system against the Jets. With the hearty performance, worrying fans had the courage to boast that Coach Bill Belichick would make a man out of Cassel and quickly; that it didn’t matter he’d never started a pro or a college team until then. And then the yo-yo-ing began. The Miami Dolphins, inarguably not the strongest team in the NFL managed a win against New England; the team was unable to stand up to Ronnie Brown and Cassel completed for a weal 131 yards. He got a break, as the next week was a bye, and somehow managed to come back with a win against San Francisco. And it’s continued. By this point, fans aren’t sure who they should be rooting for, and online casinos are in a rush, trying to set lines that wouldn’t screw them in the end, depending on which version of the Pats made it out on the field that day. One of the sports analysts’s for the Online Casino Advisory, Edmund Crumley, has said this in relation to the undulating Patriots: “There are too many variables working at cross purposes right now. Cassel's inexperience and the aging of the defense are offset by the confidence and experience of the team as a whole. Figure the New England Patriots to confound those wagering at international casinos or Las Vegas sports books for the remainder of a season which will see them fighting for the last playoff spot.” |
