The Olympia Group has decided where the location for their next multi-million dollar casino-resort will be, pending approval by state and local governments during this coming November’s election.

The Olympia Group, whose subsidiaries include such conglomerates as the 2,750 acre Southern Highlands community near Las Vegas, and Casino Fandango in Carson City, has decided that Oxford is the city of choice for their next huge project, reportedly to cost the corporation $184 million. The plans include a four season resort to be named The Oxford Highlands Resort-Spa-Casino. It will be largest casino resort of its kind in Maine. Since the city has been chosen, the decision making process has since turned to a few select properties; none has been finalized as of yet. Both environmental effects and traffic patterns are being taken into the consideration. Alledgedly, despite the fact that final approval for the casino will need to come directly from the voters in November, officials have said the Group has been more than helpful as things progress:
“Just like any other prospective developer, the Olympia Group is working with town officials to determine the best site for Oxford Highlands. I have found them to be very professional and responsive,” said Michael Cummings, as Town Manager for Oxford.

Oxford was chosen as the ideal location by Olympia officials based on its proximity to Maine’s ski and mountain region to the west. The vice-chairman of Olympia Gaming referred to the town as the “Corridor of Opportunity.” The area has indicated support to the prospect of a casino locally, and economic factors were taken into account as well. Reportedly, the impact would be a huge benefit to the region’s job market, including such boosts as creating more that 1200 new jobs for the construction, and more than 900 full- and part-time jobs for the running of the casino-resort. Their estimates suggest that as much as $164 million will come to Oxford through the casino, including $32 million in payroll, and taxes to go to the State of Maine will top $69 million. With so little opposition to the measures, there’s little doubt that November 4th will prevent the Olympia Group from jumping in head first to their newest project.
