Casino game play has somehow made its way into the fray that is Election 2009: Barack Obama versus John McCain. Obama called out criticism over a game played between John McCain and a lobbyist for the Mashantucket Pequot tribe; the two played a game of craps with rather high stakes in a Connecticut casino. The alleged gambling escapade took place while McCain was in a place of power regarding those regulations and laws for casinos run by Native Americans. He was more than just on the committee for the Senate Indian Affairs, he stood as one of the chairmen for the board. Following his chastisement, Obama went on to tie in the slander to another reason to vote for him, saying, “I read the other day that Senator McCain likes to gamble. He likes to roll those dice. And that's OK. I enjoy a little friendly game of poker myself every now and then, but one thing I know is this – we can't afford to gamble on four more years of the same disastrous economic policies we've had for the last eight.” A Republican spokesperson for the platform, Chris Taylor, was asked about the remarks and responded in similar terms, likening John McCain to the best odds for a successful term in American government. He went on to make mention that those who choose to vote for Barack Obama will be selecting a “wild card.” |
