A gambling raid has disturbed the sleepy peacetime of Killeen, Texas as police successfully took down an illegal slots operation. The jurisdiction of the case covered three businesses and a number of 8-lined slot machines were confiscated as part of the fireworks, in addition to almost $9,000 in cash. The town, which boasts a population of 112,434 as of 2007, is located about an hour southwest of Waco, Texas.

As the raid was completed, four machine operators were arrested; the crimes against them included the running of illegal gaming operations. Consumers caught at the scenes of the crime were also fined; twenty customers were cited with tickets for misdemeanors. The warrants were obtained by the Killeen Police Department Organized Crime Services division, and were said to have followed a lengthy investigation.

The individuals placed under arrest were: Son Woodham, 61; Young Nam Noh, 55; Barry Allen Woodham,43 as well as a fourth person whose information was not revealed. The three locations raided and placed in police custody were the addresses: 104 W Hallmark Ave, 205 W Rancier Ave and 324 E Avenue D according to local newspaper reports.

Of interest, it may be noted that neither the machines themselves nor the fact that people were playing them were of an illegal nature. Rather, the fact that the stores’ owners were receiving cash for the game play is what caused all the ruckus.
