The Dusit Thani Manila Hotel will be hosting next year’s first tournament in the Asian Poker Tour. The resort is located in Makati, Philippines and the event will begin January 27th, 2009 and run through February 1st. The buy-in for the new season of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) is currently set at $2,500. The APT has announced that they are planning on 4 or more main events for the kick off of the 2009 season; another press conference is scheduled for this week with more details. If they do offer 4, or even more, it would double the number of events that were offered in 2008- as this year came out with only the APT Macau Tournament and the APT Philippines. As of now, all interested players should contact their local poker rooms, or online casino for details on listed satellites. This year’s APT Philippines was held in May of 2008, also in the Dusit Thani Manila. It attracted more than 316 poker players from around the world, and the event’s management team hope to exceed that number of participants in the 2009 tournament. Last year’s APT Philippines offered a one million dollar guaranteed pot, as well as the establishment of Asia’s first 13-card poker competition. David Saab, a man of Korean heritage born in Australia, came out as the Champion for 2008, and walked away with the $280,000 cash top prize. |
