Australia is the next large nation that has found itself on the chopping block of internet discord as a new filtering system for websites and content preps to go into effect. Senator Steve Fielding is the politician behind the movement; his bill requires service providers to filter out accessible websites on a two tiered system. The tiers are classified as child-appropriate and adult-appropriate, but even the secondary tier has limitations that could potentially block out internet casino sites. The filters allegedly were designed to eliminate inference from dangerous website such as child pornography, but in the implementation of the software do not prevent the blocking of online casinos in the meantime. In response to the concerns over the new technology, Minister Stephen Conroy has assured the public that anyone wishing to override the system would be able to. Contradictorily, both tiers of the current plan include limitations that block casino sites and related content. Until further information is available on the specifics of the tiers as well as the legal requirements for its implementation, the Australian gambling community will simply have to wait and see. It would also be of an interest as to ascertain what the Australian service providers say about being dragged into such a disciplinarian position. |
