| 11/03/2008 | Gambling Epicenter Move? |

It seems the epicenter for the world of gambling might be heading east. Way east. As Las Vegas is known throughout the world as the city of lights, the city of casinos, the limitation the United States government has placed on online casinos might shift the center of the gambling world to somewhere more receptive: like Asia. Macau has given Las Vegas a run for its money in recent years, coming closer and closer to overtaking that number one spot to gamble. Focus continues to return to Macau and places across Asia as new casino developments are begun. Not that American intends to give over the title meekly. New states throughout the mainland have introduced bills increasing or introducing land-based casinos in places they were previously prohibited. Las Vegas casinos have tried to vie off the competition by joining them, opening branches in Macau as well. Taiwan is preparing for the opening of its first casino, developed by successful AMZ Holdings Plc. And with that success comes the confidence and profit needed to proceed with similar endeavors in nearby areas. Currently, reports detail AMZ’s intent to expand their businesses, including casinos and resorts all across Asia, a motive that requires expansive funding. Allegedly, AMZ’s efforts move to raise more than $100 million toward the goal, which comes at an unusual time considering most luxury industries are cutting back to account for the current economic crisis worldwide. Michael Treanor, the Chief Executive Officer for AMZ had little to say on the rumors, however, stating only that, “Right now there's a proliferation of gaming in Asia that's extremely attractive to us. Unlike the U.S. which is largely saturated, Asia is seeing an expansion of gaming.” |
