It seems a new trend is hitting an old game as the younger generation is taking over the poker community, both online and during the live tournaments. Names such as Peter Eastlake and James Sudworth- linked to men of only 22-years, are bouncing around the tourney tables, and always seem to make it to the final tables. It’s not surprising, as the complexity of the game- in addition to the pace- make it especially appealing to those looking for both excitement and profit. In this spirit, Life of Sports has joined up with the Cake Poker Network to launch a new program targeted specifically towards the demographic. Titled the Online College Poker Championship, the platform targets college and university students attending school anywhere in the North American continent. The College Championship games are held weekly, and are free roll. Students who participate are competing for a trip for two to Cancun, Mexico in addition to the thematic year of free college tuition- making the total value of said grand prize over $20,000. All the participating online poker players will play in weekly free roll games, with the top three players moving on to the finals. The Final Table for the College Championship is scheduled to take place in May of 2009; the location has yet to be revealed. The Marketing Director for Life of Sports, Chris Neville, had the following to say on the new promotion: “This is the only tournament of its kind in the country,” he said. “This is the only free play contest solely for university students and is for North American students only.” |
