By the end of February 2009 the tender window will be closed and the privatization process will be well under way in Turkey. Milli Piyango is the name of the Turkish national lottery and all eyes are watching with a keen eye on the future.

The privatization plan will be splitting profits with the Turkish people for an initial period over the next ten years. Included in this profit sharing plan is a commercial concern over the license of the lottery. There are a list of companies intrigued and lining up to join the Milli Piyango before the deadline for pre-qualification arrives and therefore shutting down any chance of profit sharing with a few interested companies. The major companies that have shown an interest in tendering include Opap, Intralot, G Tech - Lottomatica, Scientific Games, Sisal, Dogus Group, Camelot, Alarko, Essnet - Tattersall, Cukurova Group, Austrian Lotteries and Turkey’s own Koc Holding. This was according to the last InfoPawa results. Interested companies are going to have to make a move before the deadline on January 15, 2009.

As long as Turkey’s National Lottery is marketed strongly and effectively, it is believed to have some true potential. The Milli Piyango is already showing some impressive promise when just this past week the lottery released a considerable amount of cash. The amount in American currency equals up to a touch over 4.4 billion dollars over the past five years. They have also given out 1.9 billion dollars in prizes and put in some 2.3 billion dollars to public finances during the same five years.
