James Sudworth, well on his own way as a worldwide online poker personality, says the key is responsibility as your game gets better to ensure you can stay in the game. Poker, it seems, not only is appealing to younger crowds, but indeed that the younger generation is taking the game for all its worth. Sudworth, having already won more than £200,000 in online tournaments, a Caribbean poker cruise with Ladbrokes Poker, and a couple of poker sponsored trips to Ireland and Spain, is taking the poker community by storm and is only 22-years old. He’s up for his largest stake competition this December for Ladbrokes’ Poker Million Tournament, during which he’s eligible to win as much as £1 Million. His most recent achievement put another £25,000 in his pocket, having taken first place in the LEOCOP series online. Living, betting, and spending within your means, he says, is the key to longevity in the online poker world. The Kent boy isn’t alone in his poker youth, either. Recent Main Event of the World Series of Poker was won by another 22-year old, Denmark’s Peter Eastlake, earning himself not only the prestigious bracelet to accompany the honor, but a pretty $9.1 million as well. A close $5 million prize went home with the 23-year old runner up. Sudworth, an online poker player with Ladbrokes’ screen name James666 came from a career as a bar manager, during which he discovered the game of poker and decided to practice within his means until he was able to turn pro two years ago. “With his means” meant for him that he “…started around £10 mark, which is cheaper than an average night out which at that time could have easily cost £30 to £40.” His future plans not only include expanding his play to include US events, but (and here comes the endearing part of the story) also will use some of his cash winnings to benefit another: he intends to pay his mother’s way through a speech therapy course at a local university near their home in Kent.
