Now that the November election has seen a monumental change in the government’s leadership, January will tell whether the implied promises made to the online casino community will be followed through by the Democrat-rich legislation.

Both the House of Representatives and the Senate will enjoy significant changes in the months to come as the Democrats take power, with Barack Obama at the head. The online community waits with bated breath to see whether the liberal changes will affect such major issues as the UIGEA and internet gambling regulation. Representative Barney Frank had assured the media prior to the election that if Democrats were to win power, if a “more amenable Congress were to be sat” then the legalization of internet gambling was nearly unavoidable. Soon will be the time to see if the words will translate into action. Last Congressional session saw some efforts being made, thwarted only solely by the manipulation of Spencer Bachus, but with the new group coming in the doors, it’s doubtful that Bachus will be able to retain any potent sway.

And Frank is not alone in his efforts. Representative for Washington State, Jim McDermott also set forth bill that would transform the banning of online casinos to income generating regulation. Re-election was granted for online supporters Robert Wexler, Ron Paul and Shelley Berkley, all who have made their voices heard in proposal to the issue. With so much support it’s nearly impossible not to get swept up in the hope that action is on the horizon, partnered with a slew of opportunities for internet casinos and poker rooms. One of the things to take into consideration is whether the economic crisis will help or hinder passing bills that would grant American jurisdiction to online gambling. Measures in favor could serve to ease tensions between the US and Antigua, as well as the EU. It might also have an effect on the circus Governor Steve Beshear is running in Kentucky.
