New venues providing access to online casinos are beginning to show up in the most unlikely of places, establishments where the number one commodity is sex. A new trend has sprouted in parts of Malaysia- a trend that partners two illegal activities under the same roof and behind the façade of legal massage parlours. The marriage of prostitution and illegal gambling, if it could be called such, is developing into an epidemic across the country. Apparently, massage parlours known for offering illegal sexual services for money have flown under the radar for years, but the addition of cyber cafes to the businesses are too much for the local authorities to ignore. In response, the city council for Kuantan, one of the biggest cities in Malaysia, to decree that any massage parlours caught operating as brothels or casinos will have their licenses revoked. Council head Datuk Azizan Ahmad had the following to say, “If they conduct activities other than those listed in their licenses, such as gambling and prostitution, we should cancel the licenses.” The council also agreed that fines and suspensions are not enough, as indicated by Ahmad. Punishments will consist of complete revocations of licenses to operate- no services will be permitted to be offered and locations will be shut down.
