A major name and representative in the world of casinos and gambling released in a recent statement his overwhelming optimism when it comes to the legalization of online poker in the coming years. His hopes, he said, stem from the institution of a new political ring in Washington come January, thanks to the November elections. Gary Loveman, of the Las Vegas based Harrah’s Entertainment Group, thinks that the changes in parties will set a good stage to encourage the legalization of online poker in the near future.

The interview with Loveman was published by the well-read Las Vegas Review Journal and made a significant ripple in the efforts of lobbying legalization as the online community begins to get their hopes up. As CEO and Chairman for the gambling conglomerate, Loveman’s word is not taken likely in online circles, though he makes a differentiation between the hopes for online poker, versus online casino traffic, and sports book activity. Though he says the chances of poker becoming regulated are relatively high, the chances of the two other sectors do not look as good, at least for the foreseeable future.

According to the article, his opinion is related to the number of Democrats that will be in charge under President-elect Barack Obama, but not necessarily easy. Rather, the evidence stands in the lack of leaders who are “is violently opposed to this process [of the legalisation of online poker]. This is something we’re going to be working hard at and we think the world got easier on this one,” he said, according to the LVRJ. The ripples caused by the interview are sure to stir up some new activity in the lobbying effort, as groups prepare to inundate the new politicians in office with their own causes. Loveman, as representative for Harrah’s, has plenty of reason to be at the head of the game; Harrah’s Entertainment is the mother company for online poker brand the World Series of Poker.
