Since the UK has permitted the advertisement of online gambling companies and casinos this year, many have considered the possibility of transferring their locations and licenses just to be included in the grouping, as only UK-based corporations are permitted to market themselves in the region. The British government has since taken the issue into further consideration and is granting permission to a few exceptions outside national boundaries. This week saw Antigua and Barbuda receive such permission. The advertising standards for the UK’s online casino ads are very strict, however, and standards are fiercely enforced. There have been instances where businesses have developed ad campaigns only to have them pulled down after all the money’s been spent. The advantages of advertising directly to the UK public through signage, commercials and radio announcements far outweigh the risks, according to most, and Barbuda and Antigua representatives have been reported as ecstatic for the authorization. L. Errol Cort, the Minister of Finance hopes that the consent will also serve as enticement for new casinos to choose Antigua for their home and licensing. He said, “We look forward to the expansion opportunities that this provides for our current licensees and to welcoming other...remote gambling brands to (our) jurisdiction.” Both countries have rededicated themselves to enforcing the regulations corresponding to online gambling, poker, and betting companies on the islands; their efforts are credited with the British privilege. A couple of companies are already in the late planning stages for their UK ads, including Helix Gaming International and EHG (English Harbour Group). Both are regulated by Barbuda and Antigua and look forward to the opportunity to expand their promotional base. November 20th marks the beginning date when they’ll be able to launch their ad platforms. Online gaming analyst, Francis Fletcher said, “For these companies that have met regulation requirements in Antigua and Barbuda, it will be a big advantage to be allowed to advertise in the UK. With this ruling, Antigua and Barbuda could become a destination for many other online gambling operators.” |
