Though it’s depressing to find yet another news tidbit that results from the economic state of the world, it does not lessen the responsibility of the writer, nor the responsible gambler in knowing the latest activity in their betting sector of choice. In this case, we look to the world of football, and a team’s quest for sponsorship for new jerseys. When the airline company XL failed last year, or so their team saw it, in their sponsorship of European soccer team West Ham United, the search began for a new association that would fill the position more fully. The quest has seemed to result in a deal this late fall season, between the club (based out of Upton park, East London) and the Asian-based online sports betting company SBOBet. SBOBet (Sport Bookie Online) was established in 2000, and for many sites, ranks as high as 25th in their lists of thousands. With a partner as successful as SBOBet purports to be, it’s inevitable that they’ll be more satisfactory than former sponsor XL. Negotiations have been reported as nearly complete, and a signing deal is to take place in the coming weeks to finalize the agreement. Said deal has been estimated for as much as £1.9 million, which stands as a much smaller amount than was signed with XL for the previous contract; their deal was for £2.5 million each season they remained as sponsor. According to press releases, the agreement is looking to be signed for 18-months, giving SBOBet a head start on a second season as shirt sponsors with West Ham United. |
