In an interesting result for the voting for this year’s World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions, no youthful players will be present to represent a growing demographic in the poker world. The development has many in the online gambling community wondering if the younger players even bothered to place their votes, or if it is deliberate that this year’s Tournament of Champions will be played amongst more experienced names.

The Tournament of Champions differs greatly from other major poker tournaments, as it is one of a very few that is voted on my players. Pros must impress their fans in order to stand a chance to be voted into the game, an event which has a tendency to hold the internet casino world captive as they watch the biggest names in poker battle wills for money. This year’s vote very clearly is lacking in a younger demographic, as the twenty players chosen to represent the world of Poker Champions are all well above being considered ‘young guns.’

For now, as the voting has not yet closed, the names on the list are nonetheless impressive, and will undoubtedly please the World Series operators for the draw they will bring. The names of the participants, so far, are as follows: Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, T.J. Cloutier, Allen Cunningham, Antonio Esfandiari, Sam Farha, Chris Ferguson, Barry Greenstein, Joe Hachem, Jennifer Harman, Dan Harrington, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu, Scotty Nguyen, Greg Raymer, Huck Seed and Erik Seidel.

The youngest player is that of Antonio Esfandiari, who is 30 years of age. The younger players who have made a dramatic taking of a number of well-known tournaments over the last year are very absent, perhaps lacking in the fan base that some of the more experienced players carry with them. The list has the potential to change, however, as there are still two months of voting left to go.

The Tournament of Champions was added to the World Series of Poker’s docket in 2004, but took a hiatus from 2007 to 2009. Back this year, the 2010 Tournament will allow the poker community to vote on 20 of the proffered 27 seats. Three of the last seats have been reserved for Annie Duke, Mike Matusow and Mike Sexton, previous Champions of the same event. Joe Cada also has a seat as the reigning WSOP of poker champ, as does Barry Shulman for the European WSOP. The last two seats have been reserved for sponsor qualifiers.
