It goes without saying that the internet gambling industry is one constantly on the rise, growing to accommodate the ever increasing scores of players turning to the convenience of their homes and online casinos in lieu of traditional brick-and-mortar casinos. Even huge land based casino companies like Harrah’s are joining the online gambling market, with the latest firm to make transitional plans being identified as WMS Gaming. WMS has made their money by holding a strong position in the slot machine world, battling their way to the top of the game to become one of the most well recognized and respected manufacturers of physical slot machines, installed in casinos all over the UK. They announced this past week that they intend to use some of the profits from their success to join a new and progressive sector of the gambling world – by launching an online casino by 2011. Encouraging regulatory changes were listed in the company’s press release as one of the main components in making the decision now. With the UK finally making strides to enforce a universally fair trade and services agreement within the Union, and the US coming closer to overturning the UIGEA, the time to join the internet gambling sector could hardly be riper. WMS is well prepared to join in the furor, as they, along with their gaming terminal brand Orion Gaming, are already dedicated to meeting regulatory requirements. They hold permissions to sell their slot machines in more than 300 jurisdictions throughout the UK. “WMS will debut its capabilities and solutions that harness the scale of the Internet to pursue online wagering opportunities in the United Kingdom,” said CEO Brian Gamache. “This initiative is expected to launch in fiscal year 2011, subject to regulatory approval, [and] we look forward to expanding our presence in the U.K. marketplace." |
