One would be hard pressed to find an online gambling expert to proclaim it would be easier to start from scratch in launching a new venture; most would likely agree that to acquire an established brand and reformat is significantly more effective for success than beginning from nothing. Sites for sale, then, rarely are on the market too long, so it was surprising that the internet gambling domain name Slots.com had such a difficult time finding a new owner. First, the domain name went up for sale at a Snap Names auction, and failed to find a bidder who would meet the minimum asking price. Undeterred, the owner continued to search for a new holder, placing the control in the hands of the auctioneering firm Moniker. Moniker is now being recognized as the astute organizing party that secured a very profitable sale, finding a buyer to pick up the domain name for a cool $5.5 million. Slots.com had up until now been an information portal servicing the online gambling community, but as the new holder of the privacy protected domain name wished to remain anonymous, that could well change. In the meantime, it has been confirmed that the sale of the site name for $5.5 million makes it easily the most expensive domain name for the year of 2010, and is included in the list of the top ten most expensive site name of all time. Originally, the domain name was registered in 2005, and according to compete.com, the information portal all about slots and other related facets of internet gambling currently receives about 15,000 different visitors a month in traffic. |
