A report earlier this week that an online gambler had been robbed at gunpoint by a police officer in South Florida has alarmed the internet casino community as to just how hostile the gaming world can get. Yet another anecdote has made its way to the news forums this week, yet again in the southern state of Florida, that saw a internet gaming center in Leesburg robbed by a gang. According to a report by the Sun Sentinel, police were able to respond very quickly to the scene of the robbery, taking into custody two men and a woman. Another male accomplice is still be sought by authorities. The call for help came from an internet gaming center, called M & R Sweepstakes, located on US highway 441. The amount of money stolen was not released to the online gambling press representatives. The police gathered information on the getaway car, described as a silver car driven by a woman. The people in the car spotted the police and stopped the vehicle, with all three men fleeing the scene. The woman, later identified as Neva Mitchell, was arrested immediately. Two of the men, named Anwar Dixon and Maurice Green, were captured, while the third got away. The men have been charged with armed robbery with a firearm – an unusual charge for the internet gambling industry. It was accompanied with resisting arrest without violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Their female driver, Mitchell, has been charged with robbery with a firearm. |
