Though rumors in regards to the latest political initiatives in the state of Nevada continue to abound on internet gambling forums, the Senators from the good gambling state have made official statements this week in order to attempt to downplay the validity of said rumors. One of the more respected names behind not only the game of poker, but the whole of the internet gambling industry, Card Player, seems to believe the Senators’ claims that no new legalization measures are in planning for Nevada, publishing a counter-piece to that which stirred up the claims to begin with.

Last month, the United Kingdom’s Sunday Times caused an uproar by publishing a rumor that a new bill could be launched within the next three months. The paper said that they had a source, who wished to remain anonymous, but eventually was traced back to no more than a British industry analyst. The information claimed that Nevada Senator Harry Reid was diligently working towards a new poker regulation bill, a claim that his office now denies.

One of Senator Reid’s spokesmen, Jon Summers, was willing to talk to Card Player on the matter, and gave them the following as an official response to the claims: “Senator Reid has long held concerns about whether online gaming could be regulated effectively. Rumors of a forthcoming bill, however, are greatly exaggerated and stem from staff trying to get a thorough understanding of every facet of the issue, including the potential effect on Nevada.”

Up until this point, Senator Reid has remained relatively neutral on the topic of legalizing online gambling, and similarly silent on internet poker regulation. He serves his State as the Majority Leader of the Senate. He was also a former chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. The deputy Nevada press secretary affirmed the official statement, adding that poker regulation was not currently high on Senator Reid’s list of priorities.
