Though her performance on the online casinos as a teenager once got poker prodigy Annette Obrestad in a bit of hot water, the young lady has now aged to a very proper 21 years old, and has signed with the internet gambling group Full Tilt Poker as one of their professional players. The announcement was made just this week by Full Tilt, confirming that Obrestad had accepted their sponsorship offer. She certainly didn’t make the choice for money, as she has already earned millions in her games through both online casinos and in the live tournaments. Players who frequent the internet gambling sites might want to keep an eye out for the screen name ‘Annette_15,’ kept from her early years. The vibrant player is known to take even the well experienced by surprise, already being called by many in the online gambling community as a living legend of poker. She has proved them right time after time, utilizing her existing bankroll to facilitate an astonishingly aggressive style of play, continuously adding to her poker wealth. Obrestad was born and raised in Norway, making the switch to poker from her previous specialty in bowling. She tells how she made her start, beginning with no money, and inspired to sign up to an online casino site by an ad played on television. Freeroll tournaments were her first stop, allowing her to add some much needed seed money to her account. Her first win was for a very moderate $9, which she used to buy into $1 Sit ‘n’ Go tournaments before graduating to Multi-Table Tournaments. Her domination of the game ever since has made Annie Obrestad a poker household name. She’s most well known for testing herself during a highly publicized game of $4 Sit ‘n’ Go. The tournament hosted 180 buy-ins, and Obrestad chose to play the entire game blind. Only making one exception, she played the whole of the game without ever looking at her hole cards – and won. September of 2007 solidified her reputation as Obrestad stepped forward to wow her fellow online gamblers by winning the World Series of Poker’s European Main Event, just her fourth live tournament. It made history in two ways – it marked the largest prize ever to be won by a female player ($2 million) and Obrestad became the youngest bracelet winner ever, regardless of gender. |
