With as expansive as the online gambling industry has become in the last five years, the fact that all internet casinos operate on their respective licenses, and within operating jurisdiction is rather amazing. Generally speaking, few online gambling regulatory bodies work together, creating pods of power and operation that are often mutually exclusive in spite of their common members. That trend might well be on its way to being broken, as two of the largest, and most well-known gambling bodies have confirmed to the rest of the online casino community that they will, in the future, be collaborating. The announcement was made just this week by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, creating a partnership of sorts by promising to work together on common interest issues. Alderney, located in the Channel Isles in the UK, and Kahnawake, which is based out of a region near Montreal, Canada have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The purpose, they have said, is to create a reliable stream of communication between the two, respecting their differences in jurisdiction, as well as their past. Hopefully, by doing so, they will be able to progress the whole of the online gambling industry’s intent, by ensuring effective regulation. Unfortunately for curious parties, much of the Memo will remain unreleased, as both parties similarly agreed to a measure of confidentiality on the matter. Some would call the Kahneawake Gaming Commission the largest licensing body for online casinos in the world; still others would place the Alderney Commission among the leaders for effective regulation. They have grown in respect for the UK market. Hundreds of firms have registered with one or both of the pair, creating a net now over a significant portion of the regulated world. |
