Some additional details in regards to the Boss Media / Gaming VC argument have become available to the rest of the online gambling community this week, shedding some much needed light on why the two firms, leaders in the internet casino world, can’t seem to get their acts together. The announcement last week that Gaming VC had gone ahead and initiated litigation against their partner in Malta shocked the market, and this week we have more news that perhaps licensing for operation in Italy may play a bigger part than previously assumed. Gaming VC officially filed the lawsuit against Boss Media and parent company GTech G2, with a significant portion of the dispute between the two firms apparently being directly related to the cancellation by Boss Media of a software contract that was specifically directed towards the newly liberalized Italian market. Because Gaming VC sold their Italian licensed business, Betpro, in December of last year, they are not currently able to operate in Italy. This was a problem for Boss Media, who wanted to make their move in the Italian market. As a result, they cancelled their software contract in the region to sign with another software development company, a move which affected Betaland.com, another of Gaming VC’s brands. With more than half of Betaland.com’s games powered in some way though Boss Media programming, and 39 percent of Gaming VC’s European revenue coming in from Italy, the complicated issue has become clear to be well worth fighting for. Gaming VC claims that the Boss Media termination documentation did not meet the standards set out by their original contract. They claim the severance attempt is therefore unlawful, whatever the internet gambling firm’s reasoning behind the move. To make matters worse, Gaming VC has been generous with the accusations that unscrupulous third party access has been detected within the Boss Media family, giving access to exclusive programming where it shouldn’t be. The entire debacle is being universally viewed as a shame, as Boss Media and Gaming VC have until now enjoyed a fruitful business relationship in the online gambling industry. |
