For poker enthusiasts who will be in the Las Vegas area in early June, a stop by the Bellagio Poker Room might be in order as one of the most well known poker professionals in the online gambling industry will be making an attempt to break the world’s record for the most hours of poker played in a single sitting. Phil ‘The Unabomber’ Laak will begin his quest on June 2, pursuing the existing record of 78 straight hours of poker. The previous record of 78 hours straight was set by a fellow pro, that of Paul Zimbler in the fall of 2009. This event at the Bellagio will not only help Laak’s reputation, but will financially help a children’s charity by the name of Camp Sunshine, a group that works to help kids and their families with life-threatening diseases. Not to say that Laak is in need of good press, as is already recognized as one of the best in the poker world, both in live and online casinos. His iconic playing look includes dark sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt, always covering his head. He’s been a regular on televised poker shows, like High Stakes Poker and even Poker After Dark. Despite the shady look, his personality often keeps the table lively, offering up friendly banter with his competition. His penchant for unusual prop bets keep the railbirds standing by for more action. "I have played many enduro sessions of poker, but never anything of this magnitude,” Laak said this week. “I know this will test my limits but I love a good challenge and am excited to be trying to beat this record in Vegas top poker room." |
