The list of online gambling information portals that have been attacked in the last week by Distribution Denial of Services bots grows, as two more popular site names are added to those victimized by the e-criminals. The first two, Casino Meister and The Online Casino Reviewer, are now joined by the likes of the Online Players Union.com as well as Australia’s Gambling Gazette.com. Perhaps because the news had already been spread among groups, the last two attacks were not nearly as detrimental as the surprise raid that had Casino Meister down for days. The Online Players Union was down for only two hours, improving upon the loss of service for the Reviewer of five. It is very likely that the same perpetrators are to blame for all five events, as none of them were particularly sophisticated, and none demanding any extortion funds. For the Union attack, six rapidly rotating IP addresses were used, sending a high volume of db error emails through Fast Trac Traffic Builder.com. The host network for the site quickly identified what was going on, and automatically blocked most of the damage from the assault. Union, like the other attackees, flag and warn about bad online casino sites, placing them at a higher risk for DDoS raids. The most recent attack was on an Australian site, Gambling Gazette.com. According to a report on the online Gambling Portal Webmasters Association (GPWA), the Gazette was taken down last week, and recovered, only to fall victim once again this week. Few details have been released, a condition mostly attributed to the difficulties that the webmaster for the site seems to be having with global communication. |
