A Decline from Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods’ name has rarely been out of the press in recent weeks, especially following his departure from the game of golf, his sex rehabilitation center and his dismissal from a number of sponsorships for various sports-related companies in the US. One online gambling company apparently thought that his recent decline in positive press, and even more dramatic withdrawal from the favor of sponsors could mean the perfect time to make a bid of their own, offering a generous pay package to represent the internet gambling firm.

But apparently Paddy Power thought wrong, as report say now that the deal made to Tiger Woods was rejected by the golf star, though no specific details as to why were given. Paddy Power, a powerful firm based out of Ireland, offered a pay rate of £5 million should the professional golfer step in as their representative. Though the amount was declined, the online gambling firm has implied that negotiations are still in order, and they have every intention of continuing to pursue a business relationship with the star.

"We're in negotiations with IMG to sponsor Tiger," a Paddy Power spokesman told US magazine 'Golfweek'. "It's still in the early stage of negotiations, really. But if it all comes off, it'll be the biggest sponsorship deal we've done by quite some way." Tiger Woods is represented by the agency IMG, and specifically by Mark Steinberg who seemed to be in a bit of disagreement with Paddy Power’s optimistic response to the rejection. He would answer few questions about the decision; however, saying only that, “We're not involved in any discussions to add to his sponsorship portfolio at this time.”
