The city of angels saw the happy conclusion of the Los Angeles Classic High Roller poker tournament this week, making a young competitor a very happy man as the 24-year old poker professional Scott Seiver managed to win out against a slew of well-known players from both the live circuit and the online gambling world in taking the title. He was awarded $425,334, making the Classic High Roller win his largest profit yet, and a significant turn on the $25,000 buy-in for the game. Seiver seems to be committed to having his name marked down in the history books, as he was able to take a fourth place finishing in the North American Poker Tour this past February, the inaugural run of the tour, as hosted by online casino group Poker Stars. He took $25,000 from that $215,000 win to place first in this latest event, setting himself apart from the competition and forewarning his fellow professional players that he intends to join the big leagues. Seiver is from Cold Harbor, New York. In this latest championship, the youthful player won out against a star-studded field of 41 of the world’s top names in online poker and tournament title holders. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Erick Lindgren, Daniel Alaei and Ashton Griffin all showed up to try their hands, and Seiver and Daniel Alaei ended up working in tangent to eliminate the likes of Will Molson, Tommy Vedes, Lee Markholt and finally Jason Mercier from the final table before the two could settle down to their heads up. The pair began with Seiver only holding a small chip advantage over the better-known pro, but quickly gave the railbirds a show, turning that small advantage into a dominating win. It took only a few hands before Alaei had to settle for second place. "I don't know if I can stand up here and say I'm the best at these, but I like to think of myself as one of the better players," Seiver said after his win. "It's always about walking a fine line between confidence and hubris." The tournament took place at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California. The win brings Seiver’s total career winnings to $1,908,300. |
