It was announced earlier this week that the online gambling news information portal Casino Meister was attacked, sending the popular site offline for a number of days as repairs were done, and the whole of the site was transferred to more powerful servers. It seems that just a day later, another online gambling support site has seen a similar, if less severe attack, as the Online Casino Reviewer reported a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on their site.

The sites are unrelated to one another, having different domain names, accounts and owners. Neither case was submitted an extortion demand as is so often the case with DDoS attacks. Dave Sawyer plays the same role at the Reviewer as Bryan Bailey does at Casino Meister, as webmaster extraordinaire. Sawyer reported that he was away from the site for the weekend, coming back to work only to discover that the domain had crashed under the attack.

Because of his quick reaction, however, Sawyer was able to minimize the down time for Online Casino Reviewer, having the site back up and running in about five hours. The companies do not share a host service. This second attack has sent rumor scattering through the online gambling community, as many are trying to determine if their information portals of choice are at risk. It is still popular opinion that the perpetrators are likely operators of negatively reviewed internet casino(s).

"The attack was similar to that used on Casinomeister, although not as widely distributed," Sawyer said. "I am working closely with our hosting company to ensure that OCR is adequately protected against any future attacks. The manner of the attacks was quite crude and unsophisticated. They basically iframe your site via a third party site and send a lot of traffic that way."
