News pertinent to the Italian online gambling market, the Austrian circles and the online poker community hits the stands this week with the confirmation granted by the online poker provider Ongame that their will be launching a new network to meet the needs of a specific demographic. Owned by the Austrian company, Bwin, the lesser online gambling company will be introducing their new poker network to allow for greater player liquidity by combining and consolidating their existing seven Italian partners in the near future.

According to the press release, the seven Italy-facing companies to merge into the new poker network will include the following: BetPro.it, Bwin, Casino di Venezia, Fast Poker, Ongame sister company Gioco Digitale, Gmatica and SportingBet.it. The group has already made the move as of the end of February, bringing together their memberships totaling more than 5 million poker players. All of the sites are now proud members of the p5 poker engine, operated through Bwin’s Ongame subsidiary.

The head of the lucrative Ongame Network, Martin Lerby, made the following statement following the news of the deal: “The adaptability of the P5 poker engine to power both regional and global networks is showcased by Ongame Network Italy and we continue to work closely with the Italian authorities as we prepare for the anticipated introduction of cash games.” The news comes just after a similar story from Microgaming, who teamed up with fellow internet gambling powerhouse Ladbrokes to broke an Italian poker network deal. Standing apart, the Ongame sites already have strong memberships, offer a variety of tournament styles for every player, and will be adding cash games once approval has been received from AAMS.
