Some more news regarding the progression of online gambling has hit the Nevada news circuit this week, as the question of adding more restrictions for the industry comes to light. The measure, being presented by a member of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, is under scrutiny at the moment by internet casino analysts, who seem to be in a bit of disagreement as to whether the bill would further restrict, or effectively liberalize the market, a question that has yet to be answered.

According to the bill, the proposal is designed to fulfill exactly one purpose: to acutely define the relationships between licensed land-based casinos in the State of Nevada, and their online casino counterparts, for now linked directly to the casinos themselves in a intrastate structure. The draft has been scheduled to be reviewed by the Gaming Control Board, and it’s progression through the system will undoubtedly be closely watched by the whole of the online gambling industry as many have opined that 2010 is the year for legalization of internet casinos in the United States.

A number of online gambling groups are contractually tied to land-based establishments, including Harrah’s World Series of Poker and Everest Poker. Similarly, Poker Stars’ North American Poker Tour (in its inaugural year) and the Face the Ace television show have holds in both the live tournament circuit playing out in Las Vegas, and in the online gambling world for sponsorship and revenue. Harrah’s, though based in their success as a traditional casino conglomerate, opened last year Harrah’s Interactive, a whole other branch that focuses solely on the internet gambling industry. They currently are building their portfolio through work in the UK; they have three sites operating, though none are welcoming US players at this time.
