The latest leg of the Latin American Poker Tour has found a champion as Jose ‘Nacho’ Barbero went home with both the title for the Punta del Este event and the cash prize associated with the win. The Argentinean professional poker player managed to hold out against a score of 306 players through the weekend, making his Poker Stars.net Team proud, on which he’s a registered professional player. The Latin American Tour is hosted by the online casino, which has already called the final event for the location a steaming success. Few could argue the point, as the rest of the internet casino community agrees that the Latin American Tour is doing better than some had anticipated it would in these hard times. Attracting 306 players, the event generated a prize pool worth $1,042,260 – a sum large enough to equal 48 placings for cash prizes, and still leaving the biggest chunk of $279,330 for Barbero to seize. The final table was actually quite international; as two Brazilians, one Colombian, one Uruguayan, and three Argentineans and a French player sat down to compete. The only player not from South America was Nicolas Cardyn, the French man who gained entry to the event through an online qualifier at the internet gambling website. He managed be the runner-up, meeting Barbero in the heads up, and winning the second place prize of $161,550 for his efforts. Norbert Ludger, of Uruguay, began the final table as chip leader, but was eliminated relatively quickly. Barbero may not yet be well known in the online gambling community, but he’s certainly a household name in Argentina. He represented his home country for the Magic: The Gathering international poker tournament and holds a strong personal resume of events played and cashed from around the world. His last significant win came with a final table cash win during the LAPT Season II event in Mar del Plata, awarding him $28,220 for his 9th place finish. Nacho has cashed in six times at the World Series of Poker events, including twice in Main Events. This latest first place win came at the Mantra Casino & Resort in Punta del Este. |
