Quickly following up this week’s news from the online gambling company Sportingbet comes an update from the same sports betting firm announcing their intentions to bullishly enter the newly liberalized French gambling industry. Apparently, the group has made its way into the elite select few who have partnered up with local companies, positioning themselves in preparation for the imminent liberalization of the internet casino interests in the European country. Sportingbet has entered into an agreement with the online version of the major French newspaper Le Monde. The pair, Sportingbet and Le Monde.fr, have agreed to a two-year contract that lines up an exclusive partnership beginning in April of 2010. The agreement was penned with the impending legislative changes specifically in mind, including an advertising agreement and a new co-branded product. The new offering will be accessible directly from the Le Monde.fr website. “LeMonde.fr users expect a high quality, innovative service that respects both French and European regulations,” said the chief executive officer of Le Monde, Phillippe Jeannet, “and Sportingbet have shown they will meet this expectation through their policy to date.” In common, the companies share their desire to adhere strictly to the new French policy on online gambling; in consideration of this, the agreement will have two phases. Firstly, a free online gambling application will be launched in April of this year, with the secondary stage, the real money software being introduced as soon as legalization is achieved. Most industry experts expect the French market to be operating by June of 2010. |
