Though understandably, much of the online gambling community’s attention is focused on the city of Las Vegas as the World Series of Poker unfolds inside of the Rio Casino and Resort, there is still plenty of players around to make yet another well recognized poker tourney a success as the Melbourne Championship finds it’s conclusion down under. The competition gave little care to the World Series’ progress on the other side of the globe, concentrating on capturing the title of the tournament in Melbourne, Australia, and working hard to earn their share of the A$ 590,000 prize pool. A solid 590 players managed to ante up the buy-in in of A$ 1,100 to participate in the Melbourne Championship’s Main Event, which took place in the Crown Casino. Three challenging days later, one victor emerged from the crown, as a very young Brendon Rubie managed to waslk with the grand prize of A$ 118,000. The 20-year old did so after finally completing a difficult heads up with fellow player Ming Nguyen as the internet casino community held their breath for a winner. The final table was lacking in names well recognized by most in the internet casino world, primarily because the biggest headliners are taking their place at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, USA. The final table for the Melbourne Championship sat ten players: Brendon Rubie, Minh Nguyen, Mark Iskander, Michael Spilkin, Amanda De Cesare, Sam Vakili, Brian Boyle, Rob Salter, Andrew Scarf and Jarred Graham. The cash prizes extended to the last of them, Graham, who was eliminated first and went home with a consolation prize of A$ 8,850, an excellent profit for his ante. Runner-up Nguyen had to console himself with A$ 83,780. |
