For years, the online gambling company Danske Spil has held the advantageous position of holding a monopoly over Denmark’s market, an elevated position that could be under threat in the coming months. Rumors are becoming more pronounced on the internet casino forums, with more coming to the agreement that change is in the winds for Denmark, as the politicians move closer to liberalizing the online casino market, opening up licenses to include offshore companies.

The process is slow to be sure, and with ridiculously expensive for foreign internet gambling sites to earn licensing rights, but the profits to be made by Denmark should be drastic enough to offset the trouble. ISP blocking will have its place as well, used to ensure that only regulated firms can even by accessed by Danish residents. The future looms near, with the liberalization legislation scheduled to take place on the first of July, marking the first month that Danske Spil will potentially have to share in their market.

According to the new law, a measure pushed by the European Commission’s demands for fair trade for goods and services, Licenses will be granted for both poker and online casino operations, and a different entity will be managing the sports betting industry. For now, bingo is not within the realm of change, a category still within Danske Spil’s domain.

They don’t necessarily have to be worried quite yet, however, as Danske Spil will have a six month head-start as other offshore companies work to gain their licensing starting on the first. The permissions themselves won’t go active until January of 2011. By that time, Danske Spil will be ready to launch their own improvements, as a contract has been signed with Party Poker for next year that will see the firm’s poker and casino platform merging to a new dimension.
